Highlights of the Regular Meeting of Council on Monday, January 29, 2024.

Delegation

Students from Marathon High School, Gabriella Serrao and Miley Anthony, updated Council on the new thrift shop “Falcon’s Fashion” that is opening soon at their school. This new initiative was created to help deter students from using fast fashion and offer affordable stylish clothing to students in grade 9 to grade 12.

Unfinished Business

Bag tag fees remain the same, however tipping fees at Waste Transfer Station will be increased to a minimum of 6 bag tags and $125.00 per tonne effective April 1, 2024.

Council Report

Mayor Dumas and Councillor Wheeler provided updates on their time at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association Conference. Highlights on topics discussed were food security, climate change, roads and highways, infrastructure needs of the community, the LNG project, homelessness/mental health/addictions.

Municipal Accommodation Tax Increase

Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) will increase to six percent effective March 1, 2024.
