Voting Method/Information

Internet Voting method will be used for the 2022 Municipal and School Board Elections for our Municipality and you will have 10 days to vote.

You will receive a Voter Instruction Letter with a Personal Identification Number through Canada Post that will grant you access to the voting system. Please contact the Municipal Office to ensure you are on the Voters’ List to receive your Voter Instruction Letter.

If you have not received a Voter Instruction Letter by October 13, 2022, please contact the Voter Help Line and one will be provided to you.

Voting will open Friday, October 14th at 10:00 a.m. and close on Monday, October 24th at 8:00 p.m.

We will not be offering phone voting it will be online voting ONLY.

FILING OF NOMINATION

2022 Marathon Municipal

and School Board Trustee Elections

Section 33 (1) of the Municipal Elections Act provides that a person may be nominated for an office by filing a nomination in the Clerk’s Office, in person or by an agent.  The nomination shall be on the prescribed form, and be accompanied by:

  • FOI Release, and
  • Declaration of Qualification

All on the prescribed forms, signed by the person being nominated and be accompanied by the prescribed nomination filing fee which is $200 for Mayor and $100 for all others.

Proof of identification and Canadian Citizenship will also be required at time of filing.

Nomination packages may be filed with the Clerk during normal office hours beginning Monday, May 2, 2022, until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022, for the following offices:

Town of Marathon

  • One (1) Mayor
  • Four (4) Councillors

Town of Marathon & Lake Superior Locality

  • Two (2) Public – English Trustees
  • One (1) Public – French Trustee
  • One (1) Separate – English Trustee
  • One (1) Separate – French Trustee

If you are a resident, owner or tenant of property in Ontario, a Canadian citizen and 18 years of age you can vote in Ontario’s municipal and school board elections.  We all play a role in ensuring a fair electoral system, and it is the responsibility of every elector to make sure their information is up-to-date and accurately reflected for electoral purposes. By logging into voterlookup.ca, eligible electors can:

  • confirm or update their electoral information
  • add an elector name to an address
  • change school support
