The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) gives you the right to ask for some information retained by the Town of Marathon.

How do I make a Freedom of Information (FOI) request?

Requests may be submitted in person or by mail. The FOI Coordinator will determine if the request should be submitted formally under MFIPPA, or if the records can be provided as a routine disclosure.

In-person:

Detailed Access Requests may be submitted to the Clerk's Office together with $5.00 cash/money order, payable to the Town of Marathon

By mail:

Mail your detailed Access Request to our office together with a $5.00 money order, payable to the Town of Marathon:

Clerk's Office
Town of Marathon
4 Hemlo Drive
PO Bag TM
Marathon, Ontario P0T 2E0

Online or faxed requests will not be accepted as payment is required with the application.

How long does it take?

The Town will respond to a request within 30 calendar days of receiving the request, sufficient clarification and payment of the $5.00 application fee. For requests that involve a large number of records, an extensive search, or consultation with an external third party, the time may be extended.

Requesters will be advised of a time extension.

Due to privacy concerns, records will not be sent electronically. When your request is complete and records ready, you will have the option to pick them up at Town Hall or have them mailed (upon request). If you are requesting access to personal information, the records will need to be picked up at Town Hall and you will be asked to provide proof of your identity prior to any records being released.

Is there a fee?

A non-refundable $5.00 application fee must be paid when submitting an Access Request. Additional fees may be charged under Section 45 of The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act for processing and photocopying.
