MARATHON, ON – The Town of Marathon is currently finalizing architecture plans and has submitted project funding applications to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and Fednor to convert the former Town-owned Ontario Provincial Police Station on Hemlo Drive, into a new, six thousand (6,000) square feet, Marathon Public Library space.

The Poppy Lane subdivision show home will be available for public viewing by appointment only starting October 8.

MARATHON, ON – The Town of Marathon and Generation Mining Limited are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), formalizing a shared commitment to continued communication, collaboration and cooperation as the Marathon Copper-Palladium Project progresses.

Due to National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, garbage and recycling collection normally scheduled for Wednesday, September 30 will be moved to Thursday, October 1.

The Towns of Marathon, Terrace Bay, Manitouwadge and Schreiber are seeking qualified individuals to serve on the North Shore Compliance Audit Committee (NSCAC) for the 2026 Municipal Election.

The Committee is an independent statutory body responsible for reviewing applications for compliance audits of municipal election campaign finances and determining whether further action may be required where potential contraventions of the Municipal Elections Act have occurred.

Individuals with experience or knowledge in areas such as accounting, auditing, finance, law, municipal government, governance, or compliance are encouraged to apply.

Application deadline: September 23, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.

The fire ban in the Town of Marathon has been lifted.

Residents are reminded that although the ban has been lifted, fire safety remains everyone’s responsibility. Please use caution, follow all applicable fire permit regulations, and ensure fires are properly supervised and fully extinguished.

This Notice of Adoption of the new Town of Marathon Official Plan (“the Official Plan”) is issued pursuant to section 17 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P. 13 (“Planning Act”).
