Official Plan and Zoning By-law Review Open House

Town of Marathon Official Plan and Zoning By-law Review Notice of Public Open House – August 19, 2025

The Town of Marathon is reviewing its Official Plan and Zoning By-law, along with completing a Housing Needs Assessment. This review will result in updated documents that will replace the current Official Plan and Zoning By-law, both approved in 2016.

An Official Plan is a land use policy document adopted by Council under the Ontario Planning Act. It guides long-term planning, growth, and development in the community and must align with provincial interests. The Town is updating its Plan to ensure its policies remain relevant, reflect local needs, and comply with the Planning Act, the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024, and other provincial regulations.

The Zoning By-law will also be updated to align with the new Official Plan. It sets detailed rules for development, such as permitted land uses, lot sizes, and building requirements.

As part of this process, the Town is conducting a Housing Needs Assessment to support both the Official Plan Review and the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) requirements. This assessment will identify current housing challenges and opportunities to help meet future housing demand.

You're invited to attend a Public Open House and get involved!
