Respect

The Town of Marathon is Embracing and Promoting RESPECT

At the Town of Marathon, we are committed to building a community culture rooted in RESPECT for ourselves, for each other, and for the diverse backgrounds and experiences that shape our town.

Our goal is to take RESPECT to a higher level by supporting and promoting:

  • Awareness of how people should treat one another.
  • Beliefs and behaviours that recognize the importance of human dignity.
  • Leadership that fosters respectful actions and dialogue.
  • Responsible, respectful, and positive use of social media.

What Does RESPECT Mean?

Respect (verb): To show regard or consideration for — “to respect someone's rights.”

Everyone has a role to play in upholding our shared Rights and Responsibilities as members of this community.

Our Rights Include:

  • Being treated with respect as a basic human right — regardless of race, colour, gender, sexual orientation, religion, intellectual capacity, body shape, disability, age, family background, parental status, or socio-economic background.
  • The right to live and work in an environment that is dignified and free from harassment.
  • The right to fairness, inclusion, and kindness in all settings.
  • The right to speak up and expect action when disrespected.

Our Responsibilities Include:

  • Communicating in a positive, inclusive, and respectful manner.
  • Leading by example and contributing to a respectful workplace and community.
  • Treating others equitably and fairly.
  • Supporting those who experience harassment or discrimination by listening and standing with them.
  • Speaking up when disrespect occurs, and offering constructive paths forward.
  • Taking responsibility for our actions and helping create a healthier, more inclusive environment.
