The Town of Marathon is committed to providing accessible services and facilities for all residents and visitors, including individuals with disabilities. We comply with the Ontarians with Disabilities Act (ODA) and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) to identify, remove, and prevent barriers to accessibility.

Accessibility Legislation

Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 (ODA)
The ODA aims to improve opportunities for people with disabilities and ensure their involvement in identifying and eliminating barriers to full participation in community life.

Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA)
The AODA ensures equal access to goods and services across Ontario. It sets accessibility standards in five key areas:

  • Customer Service
  • Transportation
  • Information and Communications
  • Built Environment
  • Employment

Accessibility Standards for Customer Service (O. Reg. 429/07)
Came into force: January 1, 2008
Town compliance date: January 1, 2010
