TAKE NOTICE that the Town of Marathon invites all interested persons to attend a Special Meeting of Council for the purpose of discussing the revisions that may be required as part of a proposed update to the Town’s Official Plan, as will be documented in the Draft Policy Directions and Recommendations Report being prepared, pursuant to the requirements of 26(3) of the Planning Act, RSO 1990, as amended.
The Special Meeting of Council will be held:

An Official Plan provides direction for the growth and development of the community and where land uses (e.g., residential, commercial, industrial, parks) should be located.
PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The Town of Marathon is undertaking the legislated review of its Official Plan as required by the Planning Act. The Town’s current Official Plan was approved by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing in 2016. The Official Plan Review will update and refine the goals, objectives, policies, and Schedules (i.e., maps) of the Official Plan to ensure that it is consistent with the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024, and reflects matters of local interest.
The Official Plan Review process was initiated in Spring 2025 To date, an introductory presentation to Council was made on May 13, 2025, and an in-person Public Open House was held in Marathon on August 19, 2025. A Visioning Questionnaire was made available from August 25, 2025, to September 10, 2025, through the online platform, Survey Monkey. Public feedback received has, and will continue to be, considered in the development of updated policies in the Town’s Official Plan. The Special Meeting of Council will enable further opportunity for the public to speak to revisions that may be required as part of the Official Plan Review for the Town. The intent of this meeting is not to review a Draft Official Plan, which will be prepared and made available for review in the following months, but to consider what ought to be further reviewed moving forward.
THE SUBJECT LANDS include all lands located within the Town of Marathon municipal boundary. Accordingly, no key map is provided.
ANY PERSON may attend the Special Meeting of Council and/or make written or verbal representation regarding what revisions may be required as part of a proposed update to the Town’s Official Plan. Please register with Tim Allen by October 23, 2025, if you wish to participate in the public meeting.

The Draft Policy Directions and Recommendations Report will be available for public review on the project webpage by October 22, 2025.
