Town of Marathon Finalizing Plan for Former O.P.P. Station
MARATHON, ON – The Town of Marathon is currently finalizing architecture plans and has submitted project funding applications to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and Fednor to convert the former Town-owned Ontario Provincial Police Station on Hemlo Drive, into a new, six thousand (6,000) square feet, Marathon Public Library space. This project will also support new programming space for other community organizations that support Marathon and the surrounding area. Demolition of the former police station was completed by Town of Marathon forces over the last five months to ready the building for construction.
“This project is another great example of modernizing our municipal infrastructure and supporting our local community organizations. This project was identified in our strategic plan, and we are now proceeding with its development. Having revitalized, and accessible public spaces enhances Marathon’s quality of life and contributes to strengthening our social fabric.”
Mayor Rick Dumas, Town of Marathon
