Marathon Fire Department

The Marathon Emergency Services Department is made up of a dedicated team of professionals led by a full-time Fire Chief and supported by a strong group of trained volunteers. Together, they provide essential fire protection, rescue services, public safety education, and emergency response for the community.

Our Team Includes:

  • 3 Company Captains
  • 3 Company Lieutenants
  • 3 Dispatchers
  • Public Fire & Life Safety Educator
  • Training Officer
  • 22 Volunteer Firefighters

Reliable Emergency Services

Operating out of the fire hall at 6 Hemlo Drive, the Marathon Fire Department offers a wide range of emergency and safety services, including:

  • Structural firefighting
  • Wildland firefighting
  • Vehicle extrication across a 100 km stretch of the TransCanada Highway
  • Low-angle rope rescue
  • Ground-based search and rescue (e.g., lost berry pickers or hunters)
  • Snowmobile & UTV-based rescues
  • Fire prevention, inspections, and public fire safety education

Four members of the department have successfully completed the Company Officers Training Program as outlined by Ontario’s Office of the Fire Marshal — a rigorous four-year certification process.

The department also operates in full compliance with NFPA Standards and the Ontario Incident Management System, ensuring top-tier professional fire protection for the Town of Marathon.

  • 1996 ATV with trailer for wildland response
  • 2005 Skidoo Skandic Snowmobiles (x2)
  • Snowbulance (fully enclosed tow-behind sled for winter rescues)

Community Engagement & Fire Education

The department actively promotes fire safety through programs like:

  • Learn Not to Burn
  • Older and Wiser
  • Risk Watch

Public fire education is delivered year-round at schools, community events, and during Fire Prevention Week each October. The department also offers free Home Fire Safety Inspections for Marathon residents.
