Animal Control
The Town of Marathon Animal Care and Control By-Law ensures the wellbeing and safety of pets and residents.
Please be aware of some of the rules of owning a dog in Marathon:
- You must provide safe and humane living conditions for your dog;
- You must pick up dog feces immediately;
- Dogs must be indoors, leashed, or securely contained at all times;
- Annual dog licence required; tag must be worn on the collar;
- You must inform the Town if a dog changes ownership or address;
- You may have up to 3 dogs per household;
- You are permitted to keep a total of no more than six (6) domestic pets (dogs and cats combined) in a residential dwelling, with a maximum of three (3) dogs and six (6) cats over the age of twenty (20) weeks
If your untagged dog is picked up by the Municipal By-Law Enforcement Officer and you can't be reached, it will be taken to the pound.

A valid dog tag must be purchased before pickup.

Cleaning up after your dog is required by law.

Failing to do so can result in a $155 fine.

The Bear Wise line is available 24/7 from April 1 to November 30.
