The Solid Waste Utility Worker collects and handles solid waste generated by the residential and business sectors and assists Works & Operations as an equipment operator or airport operator as necessary.
This position is encompassed by C.U.P.E. Local 87. This position is also open to all Town of Marathon employees, and internal applications will be processed according to the applicable collective agreement.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Grade 12 and 1 year’ experience in a related field.
- Minimum 200 operating hours on the loader, 5-ton dump and garbage trucks
- Valid DZ class licence (and ability to operate heavy equipment on occasion) or willing to obtain
- Working knowledge of sewer equipment, water thawing machine, trackless asphalt reclaimer and steamer
- Physically able to perform all activities required within this department (i.e., lifting 23kg or 51lbs, climbing, digging, working at heights, etc.)Willing to work in inclement weather and in a team setting.
- Working knowledge of Federal and Provincial Regulations pertaining to landfill/MHSW operations.
- Completed work area & traffic protection, chain saw safety and confined space entry courses.
- Good organizational, record keeping (paper & electronic), and time management skills.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with the public and co-workers, handle concerns and complaints in an effective manner, and perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Valid standard first aid certificate.
- Provide a vulnerable sector check satisfactory to the Employer.
Rate of pay: $29.28-$33.54 (based on qualifications/experience) per hour along with a competitive benefit package and enrolment in OMERS pension plan.
Hours of work: 40 hrs per week
