Career Opportunities 

This position is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance operations of various Town of Marathon recreational grounds and facilities. 

This position is encompassed by SEIU Local 2 BGPWU. This position is also open to all Town of Marathon employees, and internal applications will be processed according to the applicable collective agreement before external applications are considered.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

·                     Minimum of grade 12 and 3 years experience in a related field

·                     Ability to develop maintenance work plans, recognize maintenance problem areas and develop and implement corrective action plans, and identify and implement improved work methods

·                     Ability to operate hand tools and small equipment

·                     Able to train, supervise and motivate part-time and casual staff

·                     Ability to perform rotating shifts to fulfil the requirements of a seven-day a week operation and ability to work overtime on short notice

·                     Physically able to perform all activities required within this department (i.e., lifting, climbing, digging, working at heights, etc.)

·                     Basic building maintenance skills including routine carpentry and plumbing

·                     Capable of working in inclement weather and in a team setting

·                     Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with the public and co-workers, handle concerns and complaints in an effective manner, plan and complete work in an efficient self-motivating manner, and perform with minimal supervision

·                     Holds a valid Class "G" drivers license and good driving record, Class “DZ” driver’s license would be an asset

·                     Holds a valid standard first aid certificate, WHMIS Certificate, Chainsaw Certification and Basic Fall Arrest training

·                     Risk Management and/or Legal Awareness certification from Ontario Recreational Facilities Association a definite asset

·                     Certified Ice Technician (CIT) a definite asset

·                     Basic Refrigeration (Ice Making) certification and/or previous work and technical experience in ice making, refrigeration, and other mechanical maintenance for municipal recreation facilities.

·                     Certified Pool Operator (CPO)

·                     Aquatic Facilities Operators (CAT – Certified Aquatic Technician) certification and/or previous work and technical experience in pool maintenance and operations.

·                     Certification and/or previous work and technical experience in playgrounds, sports fields and turf maintenance

·                     Successful completion of turf management and greenskeeping courses and/or demonstrated related experience

·                     Valid Landscape Exterminator Licence to apply pesticides

·                     Certified Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Agent a definite asset

·                     Knowledge of safety and operational regulations as set out by the T.S.S.A., the Canadian Standards Association and the Province of Ontario as they pertain to the operation of parks, golf course, playgrounds, pools, arenas, community halls, and other municipal recreation facilities.

·                     Provide vulnerable sector check satisfactory to the Employer

 
Rate of Pay:  $34.399 per hour along with a competitive benefit package and enrolment in OMERS pension plan.


 
Hours of work:  40 hours per week must be able to work days, evenings and weekends
