Mayor Rick Dumas

Mayor Rick Dumas is currently serving his third term as Mayor.

Rick was born and raised in Marathon and prior to running for Council he operated several successful businesses before accepting a position with the Marathon Non Profit Housing Corporation.  Rick was first elected to Council in 1991 and during that time took on many roles including chairing various committees with a particular interest in the Finance Committee.  Rick was first elected Mayor in 2006 and was acclaimed in 2010 and 2014.  He currently sits as a Member of the Board for the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA), the Thunder Bay District Municipal League, the Marathon Economic Corporation as well as the Chair of the Marathon Police Services Board.  Rick is a strong advocate for his community and has volunteered his time and energy for many organizations and causes.  He also enjoys spending time with his wife Leah, son Jacob and daughter Katarina, playing golf and hockey, riding his Harley, taking winter vacations and catching the occasional pickerel.

“As the Mayor, I bring over 20 years of experience to the Council table.  With that experience and the team we have at the Council table, we are committed to make Marathon a great place to live, work and play.  We are focused on our vision statement to make Marathon a superior community.  As always, I am dedicated to staying open-minded, being approachable, accessible, accountable and fiscally responsible.”

Councillor Terry Fox

Before joining the Municipal Council Team in 2006, I worked for the Toronto Dominion Bank for 35 years.  I have also been involved with Beavers, Cubs, baseball, minor hockey and was a scout leader for 12 years.  I am a Past President of the Marathon Rotary Club and have been on the Board of Directors of the Wilson Memorial General Hospital for the past 16 years.  For the past 10 years I have represented Marathon on the Board of Directors for the Thunder Bay District Board of Health and am President of the Marathon Seniors Club.

My pride and joy are my kids Steven and Stephanie and grandchildren Rebecca, Chelsea, Charly and Ashley.  When not at one of my many Board meetings, I enjoy golfing and spending time with my family.

Chantal Gingras

 Councillor Chantal Gingras

I was born and raised in Marathon.  I went away to complete my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ottawa and my Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University.  I am very fortunate to have found a job that allows me to work and live in Marathon.  I currently work at Contact North as the Online Learning Recruitment Officer, which means I help students find online alternatives to going away for school or even learning basic literacy skills.  I am involved in judo and hoping to get my black belt soon.  I also have a passion for the theatre and am usually involved with high school and community theatre whenever these present themselves.

I have been on Council since July 2014, and I have learned a lot about the community in this role and am happy to be representing the residents of Marathon.  I am currently working hard on getting IGNITE - Marathon's Young Professionals Network started.  I am working on this initiative with the Chamber of Commerce. We are starting small with Lunch & Learns but the sky's the limit for our potential in the future.

Ray Lake

 Councillor Ray Lake

I have been a Councillor for the Town of Marathon since 2006 and am proud of how our community has continued to evolve in the face of substantial changes and pressures. I believe that Marathon is a community with a bright future and that good municipal government is essential in securing that future.

I am currently an English teacher at Marathon High School, but I also take great pride in the many community groups and projects I have been involved in. The work we do in small communities takes many forms and I know that many of us are coaches, board members, and volunteers of all sorts.

My belief in 'quality of life' is what keeps my family in Marathon. We live in a community that is safe, contains great recreation opportunities, and allows us to live in a place where we know everyone. I am proud and happy to serve this community and look forward to our future together.
