Marathon is unique in many respects. Being an economic hub on the north shore of Lake Superior located midway between Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay, Marathon is surrounded by boreal forest and rich mineral deposits. Rain Barrels Now Available for a Limited Time Only! (.doc) (.pdf)

Save water, save money!  A limited number of rain barrels are available through the Town at the cost of $50 (plus HST) each to residents with a current water account (limit 2 per household) - first come, first served.  This water conservation initiative is supported by the Town and delivered by EcoSuperior Environmental Programs.

Important Safety Information

Several incidents have occurred recently with residential fuel oil tanks - owners of these tanks are encouraged to review important safety information (.pdf) (.html) from the Ministry of the Environment.

Venmar Ventilation issued a notice regarding the potential for a motor overheating in certain air exchangers which may result in a potential fire hazard. Owners of Venmar units are encouraged to view the safety upgrade program notice.
