Waste Transfer Station / Landfill Sites
| Where is the waste disposal site located? Marathon Municipal Waste Disposal Site (Marathon Landfill) is located at the area on the northeast side of Penn Lake Road approximately 370 metres from its intersection with Peninsula Road. Hours of Operation Effective March 1, 2010 the following are the Waste Transfer Station hours:
Fees and Charges Waste Management Collection & Landfill Fees & Charges schedule. Must waste be contained? Your garbage is your responsibility until it is disposed. Please place all garbage, rubbish or other refuse in receptacles or bundle to prevent scattering on the Waste Transfer Station. The garbage shall be so contained and transported as not to be blown or scattered from the transport vehicle or to leave deposits along road allowance and abutting lands. No person shall be allowed to dispose of garbage, rubbish or other refuse not placed in a receptacle or bundle except for large or bulky items and loose construction waste. General Rules for utilizing the Waste Transfer Station No non-resident of Marathon is allowed to dispose of, or cause to be disposed, waste at Marathon Landfill Site that originates or is generated from a location or use outside of the municipal boundaries of the town. Residents of Marathon who generate waste outside of the municipal boundaries of the Town may dispose of permitted waste at the Marathon Landfill Site as per directions of the attendant and the provisions of By-Law 1375. Recycling activities at the Waste Transfer Station The following recyclable and reusable products can be brought to the Waste Transfer Station:
Refrigerator Drop-off Refrigerator tags must be purchased by anyone disposing of an old refrigerator or freezer. Appliances must be dropped off at the Waste Transfer Station on Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Please affix the sticker on the interior rear wall of refrigerator! Refrigerator Tags can be purchassed at the Town Hall and the fee is $50.
