History of Marathon

Marathon is a town that has shown its ability to adapt and survive through time. Unlike many towns we have survived three booms without going bust. This community has been in existence since the 1880s, when it was established as a whistle-stop for the CPR.  Since that time it has been home to a full production pulp mill and finally there was the discovery of gold that brought a new expansion as three mines began operations just outside the town.

Museum

The museum serves as a repository for information and objects relating to the growth and development of the town and those industries that have supported the continuity of the community.  We are a seasonal museum, open from Victoria Day weekend in May through to Thanksgiving weekend in October.  Research can be done during the winter season by appointment only.
