Marathon Detachment of the OPP

Message from the Detachment Commander
Welcome to Marathon Detachment's link to the Marathon Municipal internet site.
My name is Staff Sergeant Randy Bye and as the Commanding Officer of the Ontario Provincial Police Marathon Detachment, I am committed to ensure that our citizens are safe and secure in their pursuit and enjoyment of all lawful activities in our communities.
In my role, you can be assured I will be ensuring our members, both uniform and civilian, as well as our Community Policing Volunteers remain dedicated to working with our community and our organization to ensure we deliver exceptional front line policing.
Since making this my new home I have enjoyed the new and rewarding challenges while working hand in hand with my members, our community partners, our stakeholders and all our fellow residents in continuing to strive toward providing our families and neighbors with an accessible community police service.
As the Detachment Commander I have made it my firm commitment to ensure this Detachments’ policing members provide our communities of Marathon and Manitouwadge with a Detachment complimented by Officers who will all strive towards building a culture of trust based on open and honest dialogue to solidify our heritage as well as our reputation.
I will be working with all our members to continue at this commitment promoting high visibility and an increased degree of community involvement.
To help achieve this, our Officers will be seeking out and enhancing current partnerships with the public while providing everyone with a great degree of transparency to how we conduct our commitment to crime prevention and investigative excellence
Our Officers will continue to be active in local schools to increase the number of positive interactions with our youth helping kids make the right choices, providing programs like DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), Drinking and Driving Presentations, and bike safety.
Our Officers want to ensure Marathon, Manitouwadge and our motoring public all find a highly visible, approachable community police service to rally around as I know from experience there is no better way to enhancing our communities’ confidence or to ensuring our effectiveness in our assigned duties.
I would also like to add outside of our communities it is well known the greatest danger to our families lies on our highways which we travel regularly. Statistically, high risk drivers, impaired driving and speed related fatalities increased over the past year in Ontario.
To combat this I have a strong commitment from our members that they will continue to increase our visibility on areas highways and specifically target these problematic drivers who drive too fast, follow too close, and pass in an unsafe manner.
We will focus on Commercial Motor Vehicle safety in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation. It should be apparent to all with the return of the black and white cruisers, the OPP is returning to its roots of policing and highway safety has been a mainstay of our organization for generations.
I feel fortunate and honored to have joined the ranks of this Detachment and to be part of this community especially on the heels of the OPP’s 100th year anniversary. I look forward to working with the members of our community, striving to make this safer place for us all to live.
Whether you come to our front desk, are stopped on the highway, or there is an investigation involving you or your family, feel confident that your communities police services goal will be Policing Excellence in every Contact.
I would like to finish off in telling you I am very proud of the members of Marathon Detachment. I know first hand how well they provide policing excellence to the communities we do police, consistent with their personal goals and the O.P.P. objectives. Thank you for visiting our link to this Municipal website. If you have any questions or comments about our policing service, please call me at the number listed.
