A Recreation & Tourism Development Coordinator is needed to conduct research, formulate policies and manage programs to stimulate recreation and tourism and develop and implement communication and promotion strategies and information programs. This position is dependent on receiving grant funding.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing policies and administering programs to increase awareness of recreation and tourism opportunities including Active Living Membership enhancement and promotion and Affordable Access to Recreation policy development
  • Designing and conducting surveys to assess development potential and future trends; reviewing and evaluating results and providing advice to Manager based on analysis of data
  • Planning projects and coordinating activities with representatives from the business community, community organizations and other government agencies
  • Assessing tourism opportunities and developing strategies to attract visitors to the community and evaluating current practices and facilities to build tourism capacity
  • Liaising with district municipalities and organizations concerning development opportunities and conducting comparative research on best practices
  • Researching, coordinating and implementing new recreational programming to enhance use of facilities and quality of life initiatives for the community
  • Developing a recreation and special event marketing cooperative for local groups to jointly advertise their activities and events to the region and target markets

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in business administration, recreation, sports or tourism fields
  • Northern Ontario secondary school graduate 29 years of age or under who recently graduated from an accredited college or university. Graduates from a high school outside of Northern Ontario who have resided in the North for at least one year are also eligible. Mature graduates may be considered
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Valid Class "G" driver's license and access to reliable transportation
  • Valid standard first aid certificate
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher)
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Willing and available to work weekends or evenings on occasion as required
