District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board
The Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB) serves the entire district of Thunder Bay and is funded by district municipalities and the provincial and federal governments. They are responsible to oversee the following:
- Children's services - The current and future well being of our communities depends on the care and support our children receive. The Children's Services Division invests in the physical, social, emotional, and economic health of our communities by supporting children's programs that are affordable, effective, accessible, and accountable such as early learning programs and Best Start.
- Housing services - TBDSSAB is responsible for the administration of social housing in the district and is designated as the sole shareholder of the Thunder Bay District Housing Corporation (TBDHC). The Housing Services Division oversees programs such as Northern Home Repair, public housing, rent supplement, non-profit full assistance housing, federal unilateral housing, affordable housing, special needs housing, provincial rent bank (formerly Emergency Rent & Energy Assistance Fund) and the Dr. Albert Rose bursary.
- Ontario Works - The mission of the program is to assist persons in need to realize their goal of financial independence from social assistance through employment. The program provides short-term financial assistance to individuals and families in need and provides support and assistance to program participants in meeting their participation responsibilities under the Ontario Works Act.
