Where there is evidence of downsizing within a community, a community adjustment process may be implemented. The Adjustment Advisory Program of the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities (MTCU) works with a Community Adjustment Committee (CAC), which addresses the future sustainability for the area. The Marathon and District CAC has a one-year mandate and has developed a multi-functional action plan for the broader community as a whole that will include the following projects:
- Small Business - identifying and developing deliverables to lower/eliminate barriers facing small businesses
- Education and Training - providing the population with the opportunity to acquire skills to obtain future jobs in the community
- Social Services - addressing the needs of volunteer organizations
Community Adjustment Committee Marathon's CAC includes representatives from several public sector entitles and also from various sectors including small business, seniors, mining, health services, education and Pic River First Nation. Organizations or individuals interested in participating on a sub-committee to work on one of the projects identified above or interested in finding out more about the functions of the Committee are invited to contact:
