Clerk's Office

The duties of Clerk are assigned by the Municipal Act and other statutes. Additional duties can be and are assigned by Council. Some other responsibilities of the Clerk are maintenance of vital statistics for the municipality, taking of affidavits, acts as the Chief Returning Officer for Municipal and School Board elections, signs by-laws, contracts, deeds, transfers, leases and other legal documents on behalf of the Municipality, maintains the Town's Records Management Program, acts as Municipal Freedom of Information and Privacy Coordinator for the Corporation, responsible for the municipality's Insurance & Vehicle Licensing and Property and Risk Management Programs.

The Town Clerk is a municipal officer and is appointed by Council. The Clerk reports to the CAO.  Currently, in the Town of Marathon, the position of Clerk is combined with the duties of the CAO.
